Abraham Maslow
Abraham Harold Maslow was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 1, 1908. His parents were poor, uneducated immigrants from Russia. They pushed Maslow so that he would get his education. He originally started out with a college in New York. There he was going to get a degree in Law. It wasn't until he switched to the University of Wisconsin that he switched to a psychology major. This lead to him going and getting a Ph.D. Abraham Maslow died on June 8, 1970.
Maslow became one of the founders and leading people for humanistic psychology. He had three main school of thoughts, which were the hierarchy of needs, self actualization, and peak experiences. Maslow studies great historical figures such as Albert Einstein and Thoreau to to prove his theories. The hierarchy of needs is list with different levels that one must achieve in order to get to the top level. The five letters are physiological, which is a person's basic needs such as food and water, safety, love, esteem, and finally the level everyone should strive for is self actualization. Self actualization is when a person achieves the top level of the hierarchy of needs and can desire what they want to do with their life. A peak experience is when a person has a moment of complete joy. These events lead to lasting memories of joy.
