BUT MAN HAS STILL ANOTHER POWERFUL RESOURCE: NATURAL SCIENCE WITH ITS STRICTLY OBJECTIVE METHODS.
Ivan Pavlov
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was born in the village of Ryazan in Russia on September 14, 1849. His father was the village's priest, which lead to his initial studies of theology. After reading Charles Darwin's On the Origin of the Species, he abandoned his religious studies and began to study at the University of Saint Petersberg for natural sciences. Pavlov's main interests was studying physiology, the way in which a living organism part functions, and natural sciences. He helped build the Department of Physiology at the Institute of Experimental Medicine. He continued to work to improve this course for 45 years. He died on February 27, 1936.
Pavlov's is know for his work with classical conditioning. Pavlov was researching the digestive function of dogs. He would ring a bell right before he gave the dogs food. The dogs would start salivating. He would present a bunch of different stimuli. Through the use of repeated association, the dogs you salivate to with the stimulus rather than the food. Pavlov determined that these trained reflexes originate in the cerebral cortex in the brain. Pavlov's work the Soviet Union was not only a major break through in behaviorism but also made the Soviet Union a well-known center for physiology research.
